Research you can check

Bush Crossing is an independent guide to Africa's luxury safari lodges. We don't sell trips or take bookings. Our job is to put every lodge's facts and prices in one place, with the source for each one, so you can plan and book with confidence.

Which lodges we include

We include a lodge when its published high-season rate is at least $500 per person per night sharing, or it is one of the best-reviewed properties in its area. We then list every lodge that qualifies in a country, not a shortlist of favourites.

Where prices come from

In order of preference: the operator's own rate sheet, the operator's website, then a reputable agent's published rates. Each lodge page says which one we used, links to it, and gives the date we checked. When rates differ between sources, we use the operator's. We show rates in the currency the lodge publishes them in and convert only for display.

Our cost estimates add the lodge rate to the fees you will also pay, such as gorilla permits and park entry, using the park authority's published fees. They exclude flights, tips and extras.

How we rate sources

• High: the operator or park authority states the fact directly.
• Medium: an agent or trade source states it, or it is a clear reading of an operator source.
• Low: indirect evidence. We use these sparingly and label them.

If we can't verify something, we leave it blank and say so, rather than guess.

Tags like "Honeymoon" or "Families"

These are calculated from verified facts, such as room count, private plunge pools or the minimum age for children. Each tag on a lodge page shows the reason it applies.

Photos

We only use photos we have the right to use. Until a lodge gives permission, its page shows photos of the surrounding area, clearly labelled and credited to their photographers under Creative Commons licences.

How we use AI

We use AI tools to help gather sources and draft text. Every fact is tied to a source, and every page is checked by a person before it goes live.

Independence

We don't accept payment to include, rank or describe a lodge. If that ever changes, for example through referral fees, we will say so on every affected page.

Corrections

Lodges change prices and rules. If you see something out of date or wrong, email [email protected] with the page and the correct source. Operators are welcome to send rate sheets and fact sheets.
